Wish Riders Selects T-Shirt Design Winner
Wish parent wins design contest for Wish Riders television special and motorcycle fund-raiser ride.
After 16 years as a commodities trader, Walt Wise decided to follow his passion and became a graphic designer. Recently, Walt entered a design contest for Wish Riders, a one-hour television special about motorcycle riders who embark on an unforgettable journey to grant the wishes of children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.
Walt was especially drawn to the Wish Riders t-shirt design contest because his stepson, Lucas, is a former wish kid. A few years ago, the Make-A-Wish Foundation visited Lucas, who was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma, and granted his wish by bringing him a beagle.
Walt remembers the day his step-son's wish was granted like it was yesterday. “To say he was thrilled would be an understatement,” declared Walt. “To see that excitement and joy from a boy that was, just a few months earlier, enduring more pain and suffering than I can imagine...it was simply one of the greatest moments in our lives.”
People from the foundation took turns housing the beagle until delivery day. “I can’t say enough about the people involved with his Wish: they were so thoughtful, so caring and so incredibly important to Lucas' positive attitude during his treatment. They truly gave him something to live for, a goal to work towards, and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow,” Walt continued.
Walt wanted to win the Wish Riders design contest so he could give something back to the people that had given his family so much joy. As you can imagine, Lucas, who is doing well, could not be more proud of his stepfather!
